SOOKMYUNG WOMEN'S UNIVERSITY
RESEARCH INSTITUTE FOR ASIAN WOMEN
has devoted its role and duty as the Mecca of the female research institute in Korea since it was founded in September 1960.
During this period, our Research institute has published a Korean journal, 아시아여성연구 (Asian Women Studies) and an English journal Asian Women which have contributed to the development of women-related research fields in academics. As a result, we have achieved to be indexed in both national and international databases for academic journals and the research papers published in our journals have been shared with not only national but also international scholars which help our University establish reputation as a research institution. Not only that, we also have actively taken charge of our role as a research institute by regularly hosting academic events, where eminent scholars and women leaders have been invited. The events are focused on discussions about 'women-centered research trends and the direction of the development'.
We also have several women professionals with postgraduate degrees who have been participated in this course of the development. They eagerly take part in various research fields nationally and internationally as professional researchers.
Mankind from the past generations even to the present times is continually evolving socially and culturally. With this evolution, so have the major issues associated with women changed. The RIAW has most appropriately and sensitively identified and carried out research on "Understanding the Social Phenomena Related to Women and Presenting Political Directions" in response to this change. Especially now, Women’s Studies should concentrate not only on Feminism which focuses on the gender equality but also on various women related disciplines. In other words, it is time to start interdisciplinary research that would cover from women at the center of newly emerging family problems as a result of the changing society to women as a subject of consumption, women steering cultural change, and disciplines related to women's physical and mental health. That these disciplines should be actively gathered and amalgamated is a much needed point. In order to meet the need of our time, The RIAW will do our best to accumulate wide range of knowledge and to give back to the society. We also will be actively involved in community service which is the philosophical principles of Sookmyung Women's University.
We look forward to have your continuing support and encouragement.
